CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A Saluki will spend ten weeks this summer in a coveted internship for media students.Ìý
SIU junior Mea Roedell was selected as one of 22 participants in the 10-weekÌý2024 Vance and Betty Lee Stickell Student Internship Program. The program gives a chance for students to interact with media, advertising agencies and client companies from across the nation.Ìý
“This is an amazing opportunity that I am beyond blessed to be chosen for, Roedell said.
Roedell credits the school's "AdLab" chapter for her interest in advertising. The organization works to give students a chance to work in a student-run advertising agency on campus. The club is run byÌýBridget Lescelius, whom Roedell feels has pushed her to apply.
“It was a comprehensive process that showed not only my qualifications but also reflected my experiences and aspirations, Roedell said.
During the internship, Roedell will work one-on-one with an advertising professional to gain tangible experience in the field.Ìý
“Students need professional experience and a solid portfolio if they want to start a career in advertising, Lescelius said. “This internship gives them that experience and connections needed to land a job and not just a job, a career that is fulfilling both professionally and financially.
Rodell marks the third Saluki to receive entry into this program. Previous students were chosen in 2023 and 1999. The program launched in 1989.Ìý
