CARBONDALE (WSIL) -- Carbondale High School has a new athletic director and it's a name and face you're familiar with, Gwen Poore. Her husband Pat is the Tight ends coach at SIU
Gwen Poore has coached at Carbondale in the past, most recently was assistant principal at Carbondale High School.
In fact, Poore swapped roles with her predecessor Mark Albertini.
"I love Carbondale High School. I taught here for seven years and coached volleyball and track and it's my home. Being given the opportunity to lead a program with great coaches, great students, wonderful community, I just want to build on that."
"We hope to develop some programs. I did a summer leadership conference with captains when I was in Anoka. We've started some of those types of programs and we did some things with our conference and did some leadership with students and with coaches and I'm hoping to implement some of that."
"Oh it's a great opportunity. In fact Vicky King hired me when I came on my first stint at Carbondale and so she's been a great mentor for me all these years and I think being a role model and having that opportunity for students to see and especially female students to see someone non traditional can do the job just like a male, I think that is very important. We don't want to ever say the sky is not the limit."
