PADUCAH, Ky. (WSIL) -- A Paducah man is facing charges of kidnapping and terroristic threatening after an eight-hour standoff Monday.
Wade Shannon Alexander, 44, was arrested for kidnapping of an adult, first degree wanton endangerment, and third-degree terroristic threatening.
Paducah Police say the incident began around 7:30 a.m. Monday when Alexander called his sister to his home on Buckner Lane.
An argument ensued and Alexander’s sister told authorities he pointed a long gun, believed to be a shotgun, at her and threatened to kill her, her boyfriend, himself and police officers. She said he also threatened her with a knife.
According to police, Alexander let his sister leave the home about two hours later. She in turn reached out to her mother who called authorities.
Police arrived just before 10 a.m. and began trying to communicate with Alexander.
"The department’s Crisis Negotiation Team was called out, but Alexander refused to talk with them. Officers tried to telephone Alexander, used a bullhorn and the department’s bomb robot to contact him, to no avail," said the department in a release Tuesday.
Police say Alexander's 19-year-old nephew was asleep in the basement of the house but was able to get out of the home without any incident.
Around 5:30 p.m. Monday, the SWAT team removed Alexander from the home. During a search, investigators said they found a shotgun, a handgun and a knife, as described by Alexander’s sister.
Buckner Lane between Sycamore Drive and Friedman Avenue was closed during the incident and neighbors told to stay inside their homes or leave the area.
