2 dead, multiple injured, dozens of homes damaged after tornado hits Scott County, officials say

SIKESTON, Mo. (WSIL) -- A reported tornado swept through Scott County on Friday evening, leaving two people dead and four others injured. Two of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.

The storm caused significant damage, particularly on Sloanville Drive, north of Sikeston.

Scott County Rural Fire Protection District Chief Jeremy Perrien confirmed roughly 40 to 50 homes sustained major damage in the Sloanville Drive subdivision.

One of the deaths was reported in the Sloanville Drive area according to Perrien. The other death was reported along County Road 524 in the east side of the county.

Perrien urged everyone to avoid the tornado-damaged area unless necessary.

The Red Cross is assisting in the affected area to provide support to those impacted.

The situation remains serious, and officials are working to ensure the safety and recovery of the community.
